Pain Management Physiotherapy at Home
Evidence-based treatment for osteoarthritis, chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions, delivered through home visits across Sydney from North-West Sydney to the Inner West.
Osteoarthritis, Chronic Pain and Musculoskeletal Conditions
Pain management physiotherapy at home provides older adults with expert treatment for persistent musculoskeletal conditions without needing to travel to a clinic. Chronic pain can significantly affect quality of life, sleep, mood and the ability to participate in daily activities. Whether your pain is related to osteoarthritis, degenerative changes in the spine, previous injuries or post-surgical complications, physiotherapy delivered in your home in Sydney addresses these conditions where they affect you most.
At Wellworx Physio, we understand that chronic pain physiotherapy for older adults requires a whole-person approach. Our home visit sessions combine hands-on treatment with active exercise strategies and education, aiming to reduce discomfort and improve your ability to do the things that matter to you. We provide osteoarthritis physio, spinal pain management and treatment for a range of musculoskeletal conditions across our service area.
Osteoarthritis
The most common form of arthritis in older adults, affecting knees, hips, hands and spine. Physiotherapy may help manage symptoms through joint mobilisation, strengthening, range of motion exercises and education about activity modification.
Back and Neck Pain
Spinal pain related to degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, osteoporotic compression fractures or muscle deconditioning. We use a combination of manual therapy, postural advice, core stability exercises and gentle movement to address spinal pain.
Joint Stiffness
Reduced range of motion in shoulders, hips, knees and other joints from arthritis, inactivity or post-surgical changes. Gentle mobilisation and stretching techniques can help improve flexibility and reduce stiffness over time.
Shoulder Pain
Rotator cuff conditions, frozen shoulder and shoulder arthritis are common in older adults and can limit your ability to dress, reach overhead and sleep comfortably. Targeted exercises and hands-on treatment may help restore function.
Our Approach to Chronic Pain Physiotherapy
Effective pain management for older adults involves more than just treating the site of pain. We take a whole-person approach that considers your overall health, activity levels, goals and what the pain is stopping you from doing.
Manual Therapy
Hands-on techniques including joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, stretching and trigger point release. Manual therapy may provide short-term relief and improve your ability to move and exercise with less discomfort.
Therapeutic Exercise
Structured exercise programs targeting strength, flexibility and endurance. Regular exercise - including mobility and strength training - is one of the most effective long-term strategies for managing chronic pain. We design programs that are appropriate for your pain level and progress them as your tolerance improves.
Pain Education
Understanding pain can help you manage it more effectively. We explain what is contributing to your pain, what activities are safe, and strategies you can use to manage flare-ups. Knowledge and understanding are powerful tools in chronic pain management.
Activity Modification
Practical advice on how to modify daily activities to reduce strain on painful joints. This might include changing how you get out of bed, adjusting your seating position or using assistive devices to make tasks easier.
How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions
Can physiotherapy help with arthritis pain?
Yes. Physiotherapy is recommended in clinical guidelines as a key component of arthritis management. Treatment may include joint mobilisation, strengthening exercises for the muscles surrounding affected joints, range of motion work, and education about activity modification and joint protection strategies.
What does a pain management session involve?
Sessions typically include a combination of hands-on manual therapy, targeted exercises and education. Your physiotherapist may use joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, stretching and specific strengthening exercises. We also help you understand your pain and develop strategies to manage it between sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your condition and goals. For chronic pain, ongoing management with regular sessions is often more effective than a short course of treatment. Your physiotherapist will discuss a recommended plan after your initial assessment and adjust it based on your response.
Do I need a GP referral for pain management physiotherapy?
You do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist privately. However, if you want to access Medicare rebates through a Chronic Disease Management plan, you will need a referral from your GP. If you are funded through a Support at Home package or DVA, the referral process varies. Contact us and we can help you work out the best pathway. Learn more about funding.
